The first major time we had to come in was when my sister's guinea pig got sick very quickly. The vet tried to save her, and she seemed okay for the moment, but a week later we rushed her in. She had passed on the quick four-five minute drive. Animal & Bird Care Center were so kind to my family in this hard time, even mourning Brownie with us.
Thanks!
I couldn't ask for more from them, as they did everything they could for us. I will gladly trust the staff with the care of any of my future animals knowing this. Great service
Almost a year ago now, my family had our biggest bump yet. One of my guinea pigs was going downhill. She was almost five years old, and I had just gotten back from a summer boarding camp when I found she was extremely underweight. We took her to Animal & Bird Health and they did a thorough check to find that yes... She'd lost a lot of weight. Her teeth had gotten so overgrown that she couldn't even move her tongue, let alone eat! Our vet gave us a little power mix that we'd need to nurse her back to health when mixed with water. When Flicker didn't like it, they gave us more advice on how to make it taste better. We did this for a month before surgery.
When my younger sister got her two guinea pigs, we had to bring all four in due to them contracting ringworm. Again, friendly staff and they knew just how to handle our babies! Within about two weeks they were fine once more! (A bit mad, but they didn't like the medicine)
While I have appreciated every doctor that Cori has seen, and I know that all of them know how to treat my baby, I love the fact that the vet you start with (say for a tumor removal) is also the vet that does the follow up. I never feel like my rat is seen as less important than any other (bigger) animal there (as has been the case in other vet offices), because her case is never carelessly handed to another doctor.
I was referred here from UPenn along with three other exotic animal vets. My bunny has a broken leg and needs amputation. The other vets I called gave me a MUCH higher estimation on the cost and also had up to a week wait time to fit him in. Even though I'm about an hr away and in a different state, it was worth the travel to take my bunny here. Excellent and experienced staff who really spent quality time with me and my bunny going over our options. We had spent over 4 hrs first at UPenn just to have an x-ray and bandage put on. The wait here was minimal and took about 1.5 hrs total, most of which was spent talking directly to the vet. My buns has his surgery tomorrow morning since they could fit him in right away, and we feel really good about it!
Last year, I had to leave Cori overnight for a tumor removal, and I was of course a little nervous, having never been to this vet before. When I picked her up, I realized that she had been in caring hands. The staff had checked on her regularly, and when Cori refused to eat the food I left for her, one of the vet techs gave her some of her salad, which she gobbled up. Before I left, I was shown how to fill the oral syringes, and was given a thorough explanation of everything I needed to do. I felt completely comfortable bringing my rattie home, and was happy to bring her back for her follow up examination.
The cost was very high when you added up all the visits, but the wonderful, kind, and generous staff here actually reduced the price by nearly a third to help us! Flicker was doing very well until August 31st, 2016 when she passed. The vet mourned with us, and we later found out that they had donated money to a foundation in Flicker's name!
I have cats that will soon be patients there, too. I'm very happy with their service! Only four stars because sometimes the parking situation there can be brutal - no fault of their own.
I bring my rat Cori here, and have had a wonderful experience every time. The staff is informative, patient, and great with my little girl. After joining many rat groups and doing research on the proper care for a rat, I have to say I am truly impressed with Animal and Bird.
They know what medications to give her, and the bottles the medications are packed in are top quality. They are darkened glass bottles with pop-off lids that have a little hole in the top where the oral syringe fits perfectly for no-drip filling. I am never given less medication than needed, and the prices are better than at other vets I have been to.
I've been very happy with my experience here so far! My dog, Mindy, is a Lab puppy with all that entails. The staff are great with her and her boatload of energy. Recently, she swallowed A ROCK while she still had her stitches in from her spay. I was seen within an hour of calling and was treated with compassion (I was afraid I would somehow be shamed). Instead, I was greeted with understanding and a touch of humor - perfect!
My family has been coming to this vet for over five years now for our Guinea Pigs. While sometimes the wait can be long, we know it is because they put so much effort into every pet. They treat so many different kinds of animals, from birds, dogs, cats, to guinea pigs. It's rare to find an animal hospital this good with so many specialists and knowledge.
I will always bring my rats to Animal and Bird. I am so happy with them, that even though I live 40 minutes away, it is easily worth the drive.
The first time we came in was when my two little girls got sick for the first time. We came home with some medicine and very startled little fluff balls. The staff was very kind and answered all of our questions, even some that weren't about the illness.
About a year later we came in with one of them because we believed she had a stone, and they helped us with an X-Ray and advice. We also learned that little Whiskey was special needs due to her curved spine! We have come in twice for this, and they have been so helpful trying to make my little girl's life easier.
i have taken several of my gerbils here, and now my mouse! i've seen drs pello, cromwell, and meade, and all were very knowledgeable and helpful - and gentle with my animals! the techs are equally fantastic.
